With penile injections or injection therapy, a small needle is used to inject medication directly into the base of the penis. The medication allows increased blood to flow into the penis, creating an erection. Many men find this method effective, but the idea of regular injections can be difficult to accept. Injections can be used if oral medicines don’t work or can’t be used.75

How it works31

A man is required to self-inject medication directly into corpora cavernosa, the "cave-like body" of the penis which is one of a pair of sponge-like regions of erectile tissue containing most of the blood in the penis during an erection. An erection will onset within 5 to 20 minutes after the injection.
